I am truly honoured to lead such a great, dedicated and skilful staff that devotes their lives to educating our children. At West End Primary School we strive to provide the best possible education in a positive learning environment and we firmly believe what Nelson Mandela said in his book, Long Walk to Freedom, that ” Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that the child of a farmworker can become the president of a great nation.”
In a constantly changing society, we, the educators, parents and guardians must never forget to put our children first. We must never underestimate the vitally important role that parents play in every child’s learning experience. We must remember that learning starts in infancy, long before formal education begins. My message to all parents is to stay involved. This can be accomplished by staying in contact with your child’s teacher. We wish to ensure that you are always aware of your child’s progress and answer any questions or concerns that you might have. This form of monitoring will help ensure the success of your child’s education and well-being.
As a staff we are committed to developing every child to his/her fullest potential, to assisting our learners to exercise genuine respect for others, nurturing them to develop healthy relationships and to become responsible citizens whilst not neglecting the sensitive human being in every child. It is the Dalai Lama who said: “When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts.” At West End Primary we focus not only on academic achievement, but also on drawing out the hidden magic lying dormant in every child, on drawing out the never-say-die spirit that is entrenched in the heart of every child. It is here that we wish to lay the foundation for our future leaders.
Lastly, a great thank you to every individual, organization and business who so unselfishly supported us over the years. Remember, West End Primary is your school. We want everyone to feel loved. We want everyone to feel at home here.
